BeckryTherm Savings

BeckryTherm saves money twice:

• It saves in construction costs against ceramic thermal control coatings.
• And it saves on air-conditioning and heating costs, compared with both standard and ceramic coatings.

Savings in running costs

Beckers has evaluated BeckryTherm exterior with a whole range of different roofing variables — colours, insulation levels, locations around the world, roof slopes, building types.

BeckryTherm reflectance and emissivity data can be entered into independent online calculators such as the cool roof calculator developed by The Building Envelopes Program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Note: The ORNL on-line calculator does not take account of the additional savings offered by BeckryTherm interior.

BeckryTherm savings are measured practically

Beckers has constructed a series of test sheds in Shanghai which evaluate BeckryTherm's performance day and night, summer and winter. Internal temperatures, heating and air conditioning loads are continually monitored.

To demonstrate what a good deal BeckryTherm can be, the table below shows some representative savings figures.

Each cell shows both $/000ft² followed by (in brackets) the same saving in €/000m².

Unless otherwise stated, insulation levels are R-5 (1 inch / 2.5 cm of extruded expanded polystyrene) and conventional costs and efficiencies are used for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning equipment.

The ORNL on-line calculator will allow any user to vary these.

The next table compares the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) savings from a BeckryTherm topcoat and primer with the savings from typical alternative ceramic pigmentations. One shade (Grey Brown RAL 8019) has been compared across four locations in the United States. This shows where BeckryTherm exterior will provide greatest benefit — and that it is (in this colour) around 45% more effective than ceramic pigmentation alone.

Single skin buildings

BeckryTherm is the most effective system for HVAC savings and improved thermal comfort in single skin buildings.

Savings in installation costs

BeckryTherm may alternatively be able to make valuable savings on installation costs by allowing lower levels of insulation.

The right hand column of the table below shows that using BeckryTherm in locations of high thermal gain can allow reduction in insulation "R" values of between 1.0 and 2.5, depending on colour. Using standard pigmentations and extra insulation to match BeckryTherm's thermal control performance would cost more than twice as much as the extra cost of BeckryTherm.

Contractor comfort and safety

BeckryTherm roofing panels also are cooler to handle while being fitted, increasing comfort and safety for contractors.
