BeckryTherm interior: revolutionary approach to lining roofs

Unpainted metal has very low emissivity. When it is painted, emissivity rises sharply. While this is very helpful on the outside of a sun-drenched building, inside the building, when the temperature of the roof rises, normal ceiling or lining paint will act as a radiator, emitting thermal infrared into the building.

BeckryTherm interior lowers thermal emissivity significantly, compared with other paints. The emissivity of conventional backing coats is in the range 0.85 to 0.95. BeckryTherm interior is in the range 0.5–0.6. This reduces the temperature of the internal face of a non-insulated roof by between 2°C and 6°C, depending on topside color. This can be significant in terms of improved thermal comfort, and heating and air conditioning costs.

What BeckryTherm interior does:

  • Reflects thermal energy back in the direction it came from, to the outside in hot weather, to the inside in cold
  • Acts as a thermal energy barrier coating
  • Has significantly reduced emittance in thermal IR.
  • High reflection in thermal IR reduces heat loss during the heating season
  • Can be used in conjunction with any exterior roofing system
  • Reduces energy loss in low-insulated buildings.

How BeckryTherm interior works:

  • Reflects in the thermal infrared
  • Low emission in the thermal infrared
  • Absorbs (where necessary) in the visible
  • Transparent binder, reflective pigments in thermal infrared
  • Cost effective

Thermal Reflection Reverse Side Thermal IR ImageThe BeckryTherm system — exterior (topcoat and primer) and interior — are designed to be used together in situations where solar gain is an issue.

In more temperate climates where BeckryTherm exterior may not be required, BeckryTherm interior can reduce heating bills and add to comfort.

The thermal infrared images show that when a hand is placed close to BeckryTherm interior (above) the heat is reflected back, whereas with the standard liner (below), the hand's radiated heat is being absorbed by the coating then dissipated through the metal.

This shows that BeckryTherm interior is much more effective than standard liner as a thermal barrier.

BeckryTherm interior acts as a thermal control coating when used on the exposed face and not in contact with insulation. For composite panels it should only be used on the exposed internal face.
